PRESENTS
 the Grapevine...News & Views
Welcome to the Grapevine News. This section of the Mathis Chronicles contains my views about anything I find or am sent about Johnny Mathis on the 'net and elsewhere, that isn't being discussed by any "official" sites. Occasionally, I report on things not directly related to Mathis but have a connection, may even make up a question to ask myself and try to answer. Readers are welcome to share their news here also. So enjoy and thanks for coming.

VOL. 1 NO. 11 - AUGUST 15, 2002

Mathis' Hands HELPING HANDS: Johnny Mathis' hands are for sale! Not his real ones, of course, but the White Fuji Marble ones made from a cast of his hands by sculptor Mel Slavick for the organization America's Helping Hands . According to his e-mail, all the celebrity hands are up for auction via eBay in September, no date given. The sale will be tax-deductible, and the proceeds go to support the charities of AHH and the celebrities. The hands will come with a certificate of authenticity, the plaque such as the one you see here with photo of Mathis (or other celebrity) during the casting session, plus his/her autograph. If desired, one can make an offer for them before the auction via e-mail. Apparently, international sales are welcome, also. For more information click .

Mel told me that he's hoping to get 25% of their value at the auction. Since Mathis' hands are valued at $6,000 American, someone could probably trade their used car for them! It'll be the sort of cool-yet-macabre gift for the person who has everything! Whoever buys these will have a one-of-a-kind set of paperweights, I'll tell you what!

TOUR BUS: Johnny Mathis will be in the Boston area this weekend! Think positively! Enjoy!

God Bless You and Keep Well, Mr. Mathis.
