PRESENTS
 the Grapevine...News & Views
Welcome to the Grapevine News. This section of the Mathis Chronicles contains my views about anything I find or am sent about Johnny Mathis on the Internet and elsewhere, that had been overlooked by the "official" sites. Occasionally, I report on things not directly related to Mathis but have a connection, may even make up a question to ask myself and try to answer. Readers are welcome to share their experiences here also. So enjoy and thanks for coming.

VOL. 2 NO. 14 - AUGUST 12, 2003

MATHIS IN BRAZIL: Well, not quite. But my friend Lindaura Raposo delCarlo has a new fansite for the Paulistas and Cariocas down in Brazil. It's actually the online version of her newsletter, Mathis Matters. See it at http://orbita.starmedia.com/mathisinbrazil. It's a great site for practicing your Portuguese! It's got great pictures, discography, articles (in Portuguese, of course), even a forum. Parabens para seu novo website, Lindaura!

NORFOLK ON SALE: Ticketmaster shows that tickets for the Norfolk, VA date go on sale August 18. I also noticed a new date on Pollstar for Hollywood, California on December 12. There's some conflict as to whether Mathis will be in Seattle, Washington on November 15. When I'm able to confirm, I'll make the necessary corrections on See Mathis Live.

AMERICAN IDOL: This is a link to an intelligently-written op/ed piece written for MichNews.com by W. Scott Pavone, who uses our Mathis to make a very valid point. One way or the other, I hope the young man will have the freedom Mathis didn't have, the freedom to be true to oneself in public.

TAP SHOES IN HEAVEN: If you hear a little rumble in the sky tonight, it just might be the late Gregory Hines and Sammy Davis Jr. having themselves a little throwdown. The heavens are so full lately, but we down here have wonderful memories to cherish, don't we?

UNTIL YOU COME BACK TO ME: Luther continues to fight! Send him some love. NEVER underestimate the power of prayer!

TOUR BUS: The bus stops next in Beverly, Massachusetts, near Boston. Visit See Mathis Live! for details. New dates for 2004 added! Yay!
