VOL. 2 NO. 7 - APRIL 7, 2003
ICEBERG HO: Well, well. It seems Johnny
Mathis gets a mention in the new movie, Boat Trip. No, I haven’t
seen the movie, and from what I’ve heard I’m not likely to waste movie house
money on it, but I’m reading differing opinions on it, most of which aren’t
that good. The nicest thing that I’ve heard about it is that it’s dumb, one
reviewer even called it “too stupid to provoke insult”. But there are also
those who feel the movie rates right up there with last year’s “Death to
Smoochy” and that one with Madonna that I can’t even name as one of the truly
worst movies of the new century so far.
For those who haven’t heard of it, Boat Trip is a story of
couple of guys looking to forget their troubles and get dates who get mistakenly
booked on a gay cruise. Now not having seen it myself, I can’t truly judge
it. Nevertheless, I can’t believe Oscar-winning African-American actors like
Cuba Gooding, Jr. can’t find better scripts than this, and I find it even
harder to believe that Hollywood would believe a so-called comedy that lampoons
gay people to the point that their “gay people are normal” theme is lost
would actually wash in the early part of the new century. They’re about 30
years too late with that mentality.
