VOL. 4 NO. 6 - JULY 6, 2005
SINCE I LOST MY BABY/HEAVEN COULDN'T WAIT:
This time we almost made the poem rhyme
This time we almost made that long hard climb
Didn't we almost make it this time?
Tell me why the road turned..
J Records has announced that funeral services for Luther Vandross will be held on Wednesday, July 6 and Thursday, July 7 in New York at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel with public viewings from 4-9pm Eastern Time each day. The memorial service will be held Friday, July 8 at the Riverside Church in Harlem at 12 p.m. I'd be there if I could. But I hope it's broadcast somewhere, someway, maybe NPR can pick it up like they did for Ray Charles. Let all of us go. Leave your condolences for the family, if you like, here.
Don't you remember you told me you loved me, baby?
You said you'd be coming back this way again, maybe
I love you, Luther, I really do.
Tell me why the road turned..
Classy. One-of-a-kind. Distinctive voice. Credited with the population boom of an entire generation. "The Voice of Romance". Yes, that's right. Village Voice writer Jason King's article, "Why Luther Vandross' Legacy Matters" articulates this as well as anyone can.
If ever there was an heir-apparent, it was Luther. I'm sorry for those who feel such a thing isn't possible. We who loved Luther knew the truth. The master has outlived the student. This shouldn't be. It shouldn't have ended this way. We should have had another 20 years. It's almost more than I can bear. But, His will be done, not mine.
It's all right, it's all right...it's all right, it's all right...
