Over the last 17 years, I've been an avid student of Mathis. It seems the more I learn, the more I've had to change my outlook on him. As a result, I've had to deal with how Johnny Mathis makes me feel, in terms of relating to a man whom I once idolized, as well as in terms of the music he has introduced to me through that idolatry. In the course of my research, I've also had to digest the behavior of others, namely Mathis' fans and employees alike, and come to terms with how what they do and say supposedly in the name of Mathis affects me as well. I have many questions, and as I attempt to make sense of it all through the chronicling of my experiences, there's a lot to chew on here, and I put my ruminations down for all to see right here in this section...my personal essays. I don't always come up with answers to all the questions I have; but sometimes, it's enough just to ask.
